Wake County Land Cover Analysis & Urban Canopy Assessment

Wake County, North Carolina has experienced high population growth over the last decade, with significant ongoing development expected in the next five years.  This growth prompted the county to prioritize tree canopy management and understand its impacts on the environment. The Davey Resource Group completed this study using i-Tree Canopy and i-Tree Hydro to quantify the benefits of the urban forest.

An Urban Canopy Study for the City of Lewisville, TX

Halff conducted an urban canopy study for the City of Lewisville, TX. Utilizing the advanced deep learning functions of ArcGIS Pro, they created high resolution tree canopy data which was analyzed along with i-Tree Eco to make urban canopy recommendations to support a healthy infrastructure plan (starting on page 199).

Ecobenefits of National Capital Region Park Trees

Dedicated to preserving parks for future generations, the National Park Service collects long-term data on a variety of resources including trees. Scientists within NPS have evaluated the data for forest structure trends. The iTrees suite of tools presents an opportunity to quantify benefits.

Katherine Ferguson, recent MLA graduate, collaborated with the Urban Ecology Research Learning Alliance (UERLA - the regional Research Learning Center of the National Capital area of the National Park Service) to evaluate NPS data using iTrees tools. Her research brief, Ecobenefits of National Capital Region Park Trees, is the first in a series to describe tree benefits across the region.
